Pastor Steve

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Matthew 5:9

I have been blessed to lead in spaces that connect faith, justice, and action. I currently serve as the lead pastor of  Bethel Encino, a progressive congregation in Los Angeles. At Bethel, we are engaged in the San Fernando Valley and greater Los Angeles area through works of mercy and actions for justice. I brought the skills and art of community organizing into the congregation. We have undergone significant discernment around missional priorities and are immersed in a strategic planning process. I also serve as the board chair of the Interfaith Solidarity Network

Before coming west in 2017, I served as the senior pastor at All Peoples Church in Milwaukee, WI. I earned a Bachelors of Arts from the University of Montana - Missoula in English Literature with an Environmental Studies minor. He graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago with a Masters of Divinity and an environmental ministry emphasis. I am an ordained minister of Word and Sacrament in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

I am passionate about the intersection of racial, economic, and environmental justice. I love working with leaders and communities to identify and clarify their passions and collaborate on strategies toward living out their values.

My partner Jennifer and I  live in the San Fernando Valley where we raise our two daughters and train our young puppy.
